NIKI ATCHESON RECOVERY

Thank you all so much for the well wishes and concern.  I’m happy to report that my injuries are healing nicely.  I was even able to guide this season in eastern Montana.  Keith and I are looking forward to hunting in Africa again next summer putting the horrific events of our last hunt behind us.  Than you again and Happy Holidays!

NIKI ATCHESON'S UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT

In June 2004, Keith and Niki Atcheson were on safari in Zimbabwe.  While tracking a wounded buffalo the morning of June 14, 2004, Niki Atcheson was attacked and gored by the wounded buffalo.  After 16 days in the hospital in South Africa, five surgeries and one skin graft, she is now back in the States and resting and recovering at home.  It shouldn't  be long before she is up and once again hunting!

Keith Atcheson wants to remind everyone how very important it is to have travel insurance before going on safari, or any hunt for that matter.  Medical Air Rescue Service (MARS) was able to fly Niki from Zimbabwe to a top ranked hospital in South Africa.  MARS as well as travel insurance is a must!  Atchesons recommend CSA Travel Protection Services.

KEITH ATCHESON POLAR BEAR HUNT
Nunavut redefines the word cold! It was an incredible experience
but probably not for everybody. It was extremely challenging physically and mentally. We traveled for a couple hundred miles on pack ice with dog sleds and snowmobiles before we hunted. I saw six bears in one day when the weather was good. We were perched on a higher ridge on a small island and glassed over a vast area on sea ice pack where they where hunting and killing seals. My bear had been in a big fight with another bear, which I saw and took a picture of two hours after I shot mine. - Keith Atcheson

JACK SR. AWARD
Jack Atcheson Sr. was recently awarded with Outdoor Life’s year 2000 Conservation Award in the individual achievement category. Jack Sr. was selected from a list of worthy candidates nominated by the Outdoor Life Conservation Fund Advisory Board. The award recognized Jack Sr.’s many efforts on behalf of sportsmen's issues worldwide, in particular his efforts as the president of the Montana Coalition for State Lands Access, which sued the State of Montana for prohibiting hunting on state lands. The 14-year battle opened up 5.2 million acres of land to the general public plus an additional 2 million in Federal lands that had been blocked by those state lands. Atcheson was also heavily involved in Montana’s open streams to public access laws, allowing the public to travel within the high water marks of Montana’s waterways. Atcheson served as an Ad-Hoc member of the Wolf Re-introduction Program after demanding that a sportsman's voice be heard in the recovery efforts of wolf in the northern Rockies, along with countless other smaller projects involving critical big game ranges, over grazing, excessive logging, and mining - many efforts that have helped wildlife and sportsman. The Outdoor Life Conservation Award was established by Outdoor Life Magazine in 1923. Past winners have included such notables as Aldo Leopold, President Jimmy Carter, John Encole, Congressman John Tanner, and Chief Michael Dombeck of the U.S. Forest Service.
